Original (Study) Acrylic on canvas measures 67/67cm hardwood framed POA
It seemed like a fitting starting point at the time, the news was a steady stream of stories highlighting the need to save the environment, go green ,buy local and not be so heavily dependant on Asian exports.
This battle scarred 60+ years old bright green endorsement of all electric with its proudly stamped 'MADE IN ENGLAND" seemed all incapsulating of what was the current big issue. The perfect focus point to start a new study.
Id started to collect curiosity's/ imagery from old comic books and spookily decided on a title "In the red" prior to starting the painting.
Almost like a miniature film set I'll build the installation and then take literally hundreds of photos to act as a references for the painting.
With in a couple of weeks I was fully immersed, the mapping and pre black and white painting was complete.
I was starting to push and pull with the colours, tones and patterns when I was hit with what I initially thought might be food poisoning.
After a day or so with things not really improving I was in AnE, then quickly isolated with out being too graphic I was very much "In the Red"
A barrage of tests Later and it was discovered that Id contracted a rare strain of Ecoli called 0157 .The next couple of weeks were spent in isolation not a pencil or paint brush in sight, mainly liaising over the phone with my newly acquired best friends Public health England. They where understandably keen to discover the origin of this outbreak?
Weeks past with every possibility been scrutinised and then a break through!! Public health England had cracked the case!!, after much detective work and quite a few additional cases springing up it turned out that it was our enviromentally friendly electric powered milk man courtesy of the buy local dairy that had poisoned myself and who knows how many more! A strange coincidence maybe? or a lesson learnt? We only buy milk directly from China now well via Amazon of course..
